Lens Park

Inui Lens, a lens manufacturer established in 1953, opened this complex next to its lens factory in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, known as the city of glasses. It is a place where visitors can expand their awareness of their eyes and lifestyles through the fun of finding lenses that suit them.

The Lens Gallery with over 300 colors of lenses, an optometry room, a shop with eyeglass frames from Sabae and other regions, and a cafe where visitors can drop in even if they do not need to buy lenses, are all gathered in one large room tied with roofs in the pattern of a windmill. Visitors can pick up the lenses and try them on as they walk around the entire building, going out onto the terraces to look at the mountains, the moving cars and overlook the stairwell. We aimed to create a “chatty space” where visitors and the things gathered talk to each other and support each other by the shapes of furniture and railing edges, ambiguous colors, multiple pathways, and other parts of the building that are not complete.
